CREATE Medical Student Scholars

• Receive a $5,000 stipend to work on a summer-long cancer-related research experience.
• Shadow cancer providers in the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
• Receive funding to present your research at a national conference.
• Present your research at the UCSD SOM Annual Summer Research Symposium.

Students must:

• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
• Be an MS1 student at UC San Diego’s School of Medicine.
• Have an interest in cancer and cancer health disparities.

Additionally, we encourage participation from individuals underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, including the following underrepresented groups:

• Individuals with a documented permanent disability or disabilities, such as physical or mental impairments, that substantially limit major life activities.
• Members from racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. as defined by the National Institutes of Health, such as African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders. In addition, we recognize that ethnic groups such as Southeast Asians (Filipino, Vietnamese, Hmong, Cambodian, etc.​)​ and Middle Eastern, Arab, ​and​ North Africans are underrepresented.
• First-generation college student (i.e., parents/guardians do not hold a degree from a four-year college or university).
• Individuals from a low-income background or who grew up in a social, cultural, or educational environment where they could not access the knowledge, skills, or abilities that facilitate opportunities to participate in research careers.
